The essential fatty acids (EFA) namely the Omega-3 and Omega-6 serves crucial roles in the ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the dairy animal especially when it comes to reproductive efficiency. Signalling factors derived from the EFA such as prostaglandins play crucial roles in maintaining ovulation and healthy estrus cycles. Additionally EFA also aids in the production of steroidal hormones such as progesterone (also known as the “pregnancy hormone”).
The dairy animal like other mammalians, do not produce it’s own EFA but can synthesize such from the polyunsaturated fatty acids C18:2 LINOLEIC into Omega-6 and C18:3 LINOLENIC into Omega-3. The delivery of these unsaturated fatty acids is a delicate matter as they are rumen active and will be biohydrogenated in the rumen when exposed. The REPROGAIN offers the delivery of these fatty acids in the protected form of a calcium salt.
